Outage Explanation

As you may know, TREC is a distribution only electric cooperative. In case you don’t know what that means, it means we take electric service at our distribution substations. The generation and transmission is handled by entities much larger and more sophisticated than even TREC. We here at TREC often take it for granted that the service to our substations is always on. The transmission grid is extremely reliable.
That is except for today. Today we experienced a very unusual event in the Opelika and Cusseta area. The substation we serve these areas with lost service today due to a lost feed into the West Point Dam. Georgia Power company ties to the Dam in West Point. The feed was lost to the Dam, thus knocking the Dam off line causing what the industry term service interruption to our Andrews substation serving areas of northern Opelika and Cusseta.
We apologize for the interruption in your electric service today. We know you pay TREC for your electric energy. We understand that you pay your electric bill to TREC and expect TREC to keep your electricity on. We appreciate your support and as always will continue to work the Power Generation companies to limit service interruptions.
Sincerely,
Louie Ward
